As soon as you pick up your rental car in Sweden, the fun can begin. To help your trip go as smoothly as possible, keep these recommendations in mind:
-Winter weather: As a Nordic country, Sweden can experience heavy snowfall, especially in the north. Always check the weather forecast before heading out and drive carefully.
-Toll roads: Sweden has a few toll roads, but you can ask about our prepaid toll program.
-Headlights: Your headlights must be on at all times in Sweden, and must be set to low beam during the day.
-Gas stations: Before heading out on a long drive, be aware that there are no gas stations on the highways. All gas stations are located in towns or near exits, so fuel up when possible and keep an eye on your tank.
-Local driving etiquette: Swedes are known to be generally calm drivers, and horns should only be used when it is absolutely necessary to prevent an accident.
When you rent a car in Sweden from SIXT, the world is your oyster. Be sure to explore as much as you can, including the following destinations:
-Stockholm: First on your list should be the country’s capital. Home to tons of history and culture, you won’t want to miss it. Check out the Skansen, or traditional Scandinavian open-air museum, the Royal Palace, and ABBA The Museum.
-Malmo: This city in southern Sweden is connected via bridge to Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, so don’t miss your chance to explore two countries in one day! Malmo is also home to Malmo Castle and the Disgusting Food Museum.
-Abisko National Park: If you want to explore the Arctic region of Sweden, this is the place to visit. Stay in the nearby town of Kiruna and head into the national park in your rental car to look out for the Northern Lights.
